POSADA

Posada (Pasada in Sardinian) is an Italian town of 3 056 inhabitants in the province of Nuoro. Most of the inhabitants live in the municipal capital, while the rest of the population is divided into the three large hamlets San Giovanni, Monte Longu, Sas Murtas and the rest of the houses scattered between Careddu and the surroundings of the Santu Miali Church (Church of San Michele Arcangelo ) where one of the most important festivals in the country is held at the end of September.

CASTLE OF THE FAVA

The Castello della Fava is located on a mostly limestone relief overlooking the center of Posada. It is assumed that it was built in the thirteenth century and during the Middle Ages it was the seat of the kings (called judges) of Gallura and Eleonora di Arborea, queen of the Giudicato of Arborea who at that time, given the strategic position and on the border between the two judges, was always disputed. A square-shaped tower still remains of the Castello della Fava, with a terrace above and the ruins of the walls at the edge of the perimeter. The monument owes its name to a legend, according to which in 1300, a handful of beans given to a pigeon by the village, deceived the Saracens who had besieged Posada. In fact, seeing the big and full pickaxe, they mistakenly thought that the besieged still had so much food and decided to retire so as not to prolong the siege in vain. And so posada was saved from the enemy attack by the Saracens.
